Doctors like friends

What if doctors,
once seen as intimidating and distant,
became approachable YouTubers
who feel just like friends?

The doctors of Doctor Friends hope to
break away from traditional stereotypes
and become the kind of doctors people
can talk to comfortably friendly,
relatable, and genuinely enjoyable to be around.

Through their medical YouTube channel,
Doctor Friends shares professional knowledge
in a way that feels easy, approachable, and engaging.

More than experts in white coats,
they have become trusted doctor-friends
always ready to offer guidance with warmth,
humor, and sincerity.

Doctors Who Feel Like Friends | Doctor Friends

Q. Could you introduce Doctor Friends?

As the name suggests,
Doctor Friends is exactly about being
doctors who feel like friends or friends
who happen to be doctors.

When people think of doctors,
they often imagine someone serious,
distant, or difficult to approach.

That kind of image can make medical
conversations feel intimidating.

We wanted to break away from that stereotype.

Our goal is to be the kind of doctors
 people can talk to comfortably
just like they would with a friend.

Q. It’s been about a year since
you launched your YouTube channel, and
you already have nearly 200,000 subscribers.
You explain medical topics people are
 genuinely curious about in such
an engaging way where do your
content ideas come from?

We don’t really prepare separately
to be funny or intentionally add ad-libs.

I think people simply enjoy watching us
because the three of us are genuinely
close and know each other so well.

That natural chemistry seems
to come across on screen.

A lot of our content ideas
actually come from comments.

We pay close attention to the questions
people leave and the topics
they’re genuinely curious about.

From there,
we try to explain medical information
from an everyday perspective making it easy
for anyone to understand,
even without a medical background.

Q. What inspired the three of you to start
your YouTube channel together?

The three of us were already close
friends long before starting the channel.

Although Dr. Woo Chang-yoon
isn’t here with us today,
the three of us go way back.

Some of us were classmates in medical school,
while others became close during military service.

Because we spent so much time together
both during our studies and in the uniquely
intense environment of military life
we developed a strong bond.

We understand each other exceptionally well,
and whenever we meet, we genuinely
enjoy each other’s company.

Dr. Lee Nak-jun also writes web novels as a hobby,
and through that experience,
he realized just how interested people
are in doctors and medical topics.

That made us think about how we could
talk about medicine in a way
that feels approachable, comfortable,
and easy to understand.

That idea eventually led us
to start Doctor Friends.

Q. What was the reaction from
people  around you when you first said
you were starting YouTube?
I imagine many doctors now want to
start channels inspired by Doctor Friends.

At first, we had a lot of concerns.

More than anything,
we worried about the responsibility
that came with being doctors in the public eye.

We felt that if we made a mistake
or said something careless,
it wouldn’t just reflect on us it could negatively
affect how people view doctors as a whole.

That pressure felt very real from the beginning.

Most importantly, because we talk
about medicine, accuracy is essential.

We always felt a strong responsibility
to provide information that is reliable,
clear, and medically correct.

Q. Is there a comment from your subscribers
that has stayed with you the most?

There’s one comment that
has stayed with us for a long time.

“I never imagined I’d become a fan of doctors.”

That comment was especially memorable
because it perfectly captured
what Doctor Friends hopes to achieve.

More than anything,
we’re grateful for every comment,
every question, and every message
our subscribers leave for us.

Each one reminds us that people are listening,
learning, and connecting with us in meaningful ways.

Q. Do you have any hobbies or leisure
activities that help recharge you
as doctors and YouTubers?

Since all three of us are doctors
and also close friends,
our favorite way to unwind
is actually quite simple.

We enjoy getting together,
having good food, and just talking.

We don’t necessarily do anything special.

But somehow, simply spending time
together gives us a lot of energy.

I think that’s because our friendship
goes beyond work.

Whether we’re talking about medicine,
life, or just everyday things,
being together naturally helps us recharge
and brings fresh energy back into
both our work as doctors
and our lives as creators at Doctor Friends.

Q. Being a doctor alone
must already be demanding,
yet you all seem incredibly energetic
while also working as YouTubers.
Do you have a bigger goal
for running Doctor Friends?

One of our biggest goals is to create small
but meaningful positive change in society.

In 2016, Dr. Lee Nak-jun shared his experience
of donating hematopoietic stem cells
and spoke openly about bone marrow donation.

After that, we began seeing more people
show interest in becoming donors
and actually participating in donation.

That experience became a
meaningful turning point for us.

It eventually led us to become ambassadors
for the Korea Organ Donation Agency,
and at the end of last year, we also donated
an entire month’s worth of YouTube revenue.

Moments like these remind us that even
small actions can create real impact.

That is ultimately what we hope to do
through Doctor Friends to contribute something
positive to society, even in small ways.

At the same time, we still want to stay true to
the idea that inspired us from the beginning.

We want people to know that doctors
don’t have to feel intimidating.

Doctors can be approachable, relatable,
and people you can talk to comfortably.
